Games for Spaghetti ConJunction 4a:

The Fang Gang

System: Liminal
GM: Sue Savage
Players: 3-4
Time: Morning

A chance encounter with the supernatural has lead to your recruitment into P-Division, the officially non-existent branch of the British police service that investigates paranormal crimes, as a member of the UK's only specialist vampire forensics team.

Next door to Euston Station, 40,000 bodies are being exhumed to make way for the expanded HS2 terminal.  The Metropolitan Police's branch of P-division are overseeing the dig and have requested the vampire forensics team be on hand, just in case any of those bodies turn out to be vampires.  It's 6am on a bright May morning, and your skills are about to be put to use.

Title: The Last Ingard
System: Shadows of Esteren
Referee: Gary Loveridge
Time: Morning
Number of players: 6

Description: Early spring and the passes are finally free. Messagers has been sent to reconnect with the border ingards. All have returned bar one. A border outpost between Taol-Kaer and Gwidre has fallen silent. The Duchess of Tulg has commissioned a group of travellers on their way to Gwidre to investigate and report.

Title: CALIBAN PROJECT BLUES
System: The Expanse (AGE system)
Referee: Dr Bob
Time: Morning
Number of players: 5

Description: They made you into a monster.

You were human once. Scientists of the Caliban Project did experiments to turn you into a super-soldier. Sometimes you remember you were human. Sometimes you are nothing but instinct and hunger. Either way, you don't like what you've become. You just want to go home.

TRIGGER WARNING: The Expanse setting canon includes bad guys doing unethical medical experiments on children to make them into monsters. Two of the characters in this scenario are kids.

Title: Babylon Recall - A Blakes Seven adventure
System: The Code of the Spacelanes
Referee: Simon Burley
Players: 2-6 (apparently the SPACESHIP counts as the 7th member of the team - go figure!)

An "adventure that never was", based on the classic British TV Space Opera. The freedom fighting crew of the powerful, enigmatic, alien spaceship "Liberator" soon won't be the only ones with access to the unbelievable technology of an ancient race.

The idea of Ancient Martians has always been something of an urban legend. Now - it seems - all the stories may have been true.  "Something" has been unearthed on Mars. A secret so powerful it threatens to tear The Federation apart with civil infighting, with the victor gaining the ability to grind the galaxy under their heel. (Probably the spiked, white, leather heel of Supreme Commander Servelan.)

What's needed is a brave, mad (suicidal) dash into Earth system - with its defence systems and fleets of Federation pursuit ships - to seize or destroy the enigmatic discovery from under the noses of the various Federation factions before it can foment a  conflict that would envelop and kill millions of innocents.

Seven against the Federation. What else is new?

Play any character from any of the four seasons of the original series.

Played using my own THE CODE OF THE SPACELANES rules. Just 2d6, frighteningly easy, fast and fun - with magic happening every time you roll a double.

Three days later and nothing has been heard of either the Halfling or the Constable!  Therefore, the villagers have gathered at the village tavern to form a search party

Title: The Curse of Ptahhotep

Title: Manta Prowl Tank Down - An adventure in the world of Judge Dredd
System: The Code of the Spacelanes

A Manta Prowl Tank was duly dispatched. However, on the way back an engine fault has cashed it to crash, killing some of its crew and some of the prisoners are loose. Malfunction or Sabotage?

An Agatha Christie style murder mystery with a downed Prowl Tank in The Cursed Earth instead of a Mansion and a variety of perps and Judges as the suspects.

Can you make it back to Mega City One alive and with perps still under arrest?

Spaghetti ConJunction FAQ

1. What is it?

Spaghetti ConJunction is a one-day RPG convention to be held in Birmingham.

2. When is it?

Spaghetti Conjunction takes place twice a year, on the second Saturday in February and the third Saturday in October.

Spaghetti ConJunction 3b will take place on Saturday, 8th February 2020

3. Where is it?

It will be hosted by Geek Retreat Birmingham, which is located at 38 The Priory Queensway, Birmingham

https://www.facebook.com/GeekRetreatBirmingham/

This is less than ten minutes’ walk from all three of Birmingham’s three train stations; less than five minutes from the nearest car park; and about a minute from the nearest bus stop (or thirty seconds if you run).

4. What time will it be on?

Geek Retreat Birmingham opens at 10am. The first game slot will run between 10:30am and 2:30pm. The second slot will run between 3:30pm and 7:30pm. This allows for an hour’s lunch break.

5a. How much is it?

£3 for the day. This is to cover our costs, with all profits going to charity.

In addition, Geek Retreat is a café and will appreciate your custom. We actively encourage you to patronise the Geek Retreat.

5b. What is our charity of choice?

All profits go to Birmingham Children's Hospital.

We also run—actually we canter through a charity raffle for which there are prizes and jolly good prizes they are too. Trust us, we really are not just saying that because we get some very good prize support from some of the UK's leading roleplaying publishers (and sometimes beyond). We also welcome donations of prizes if they are in good condition.

6. Is there disabled access?

Unfortunately not in the upstairs playing area, which is only accessible by stairs. We can only apologise for any inconvenience caused.

7. Are you looking for referees?

We certainly are. Each game must have a running length of no more than four hours, have a beginning, a middle, and an end. This includes any time required for character creation, therefore GMs are encouraged to provide pre-generated characters where possible (unless you are planning to play an Indie style game where character generation is part of the game). Please send details of your game and if accepted, we will post its details on Facebook and Google+ pages.

When submitting a game please let us know if your game will contain mature content and will therefore be unsuitable for players under sixteen.

8. Are there any age restrictions?

Yes and no.

Whilst we seek to encourage role players of all ages, we ask that all attendees aged seventeen years and under be accompanied by an adult who is responsible for the child throughout the day.

NOTE: Some games run at Spaghetti ConJunction may contain mature content. Such games will carry a ‘Mature Content’ advisory and we strongly advise that younger players do not sign up for them. Further, any GM who is running a game that is labelled as containing ‘Mature Content’ has the right to refuse entry to the game for players under eighteen years of age.

9. How do I sign up for games?

When you purchase your ticket you will be given a random ticket with a number on it. The last number (between one and ten) on this ticket will determine the order in which you can sign up for the games during the two slots.

Fifteen minutes before the start of the first slot random numbers will be generated between one and ten. When the number that matches the last number on your ticket is announced you will be able to sign up for the next slot. The numbers generated before the first slot will be noted and then used before the second slot, but will be read out in reverse order.

So for example, if the order of the numbers generated before the first slot is 4, 9, 1, 7, 10, 3, 6, 2, 8, and 5, and you were given the number 1, you would sign up in the third wave of signees before the first slot and in the third to last wave of signees before the second slot. This may seem complex and random, but as a sign up method, it is fair to everyone.

If you have never roleplayed before, then you will be awarded a bye that allows you to sign up for any game in the first slot before the numbers are announced. If you run a game in the first slot and want to play in the second slot, then you will be awarded a bye that allows you to sign up for any game in the second slot before the numbers are announced.

Any Game Master who offers a game in one session is entitled to sign up first before any number is called in the other.

10. Why Spaghetti ConJunction?

(i) Because Birmingham does not have a dedicated roleplaying event and having been to lots and lots of conventions, the founders decided that it was a jolly good idea. Plus because we played great games at these events, we wanted to bring these great games to Birmingham.

(ii) Because it is an utterly delightful play on words.

(iii) Because Pookie is very proud of thinking it up.

11. Who are you?

Simon Burley is the co-designer of Golden Heroes, the UK’s first superhero RPG, its sequel, Squadron UK, and The Comics Code RPGs, and as the author of Conventional Thinking, a two-part guide to conventions up and down this land, has been to more gaming conventions than any man would care to admit to. Simon admits to - and blogs about - them all.

Pookie is a prolific games reviewer and editor of award winning RPG's.
